CHAPTER 8
VEGETABLE & HERB GARDENING
The fact that homegrown tomatoes taste better than store-bought tomatoes is not only a cliché—it’s true. Why? Because when you can pick your produce right before you use it, as opposed to a month before it’s going to be used, you can let the fruits develop to their full ripeness and sweetness. You can also grow more delicate varieties that don’t have to withstand shipping and warehousing.
Vegetable Gardening Throughout the Year
In parts of the Northwest, there are cool seasons and a warm season for gardening, but the warm season doesn’t ever get terribly warm. When the seasons are depends on where you live, and different plants grow during warm and cool seasons. The key to successful vegetable gardening is planting the right plant at the right time of year so that you get the biggest harvest the first time around.
